The Gold Coast offers something for everyone if you want to get involved in AFL football.
From the youngest of beginners to those who just want to have a bit of fun.
And it’s not just for boys and men – there’s also a competition especially for women.
AFL Auskick, the skill-based introductory program sponsored by NAB, is for boys and girls aged 5 to 12. It’s a fun way to sample the national game and is conducted on the Gold Coast at all junior clubs (see below) and at most schools.
Generally, children begin their football experience at the younger ages before moving onto junior football at U8 or U9 level. But the introductory program is also open to ‘older’ beginners aged 10-11-12.

The Gold Coast fields a development squad in each of the south-east Queensland regional competitions at U14, U16 and U18 level. The Gold Coast Stingrays, chosen from the best players on the coast, compete against the Brisbane-based South-East Bushrangers, Northern Raiders and Western Taipans, the Suncoast Power and the combined Country Kookaburras.

There are also representative opportunities for young AFL players in school football. The Gold Coast fields schoolboy sides in the U12 and U15 age groups.

There are eight senior teams on the Gold Coast that played in three different competitions run by AFL Queensland, the parent body of football in this State.

Women’s Football is a fast-growing part of the overall football ‘family’ in south-east Queensland and the Gold Coast as part of it.
